Customer Awards

The Computerworld Honors Program

TANDBERG is proud to be a Chairman’s Committee member of the Computerworld Honors Program, a global awards program that recognizes IT initiatives noteworthy for the originality of their conception, breadth of their vision and their impact on society.

Among hundreds of entrants, four TANDBERG customers were awarded Laureate status in the 2008 awards program and three organizations were finalists in their category.

Deaf Link, Inc. (Honoree)
Deaf Link provides the Deaf and those hard of hearing that rely on American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to carry on their business and personal lives with confidence. From a supervised communication center facility, the company supplies businesses, hospitals and government agencies with ASL interpreters via internet-based video conferencing, on a 24/7 “on demand” basis. Its vision is to complement onsite interpretation currently being utilized for the Deaf community with a reliable and easy to use technology-based alternative.

Today, Deaf Link uses its TANDBERG solution to facilitate accurate and cost effective communication between Deaf customers/patients/employees, a certified ASL interpreter and the business/government agency/healthcare facility. Satisfaction with the service is high among all stakeholders. Watch the Award Video Now

Arizona Telemedicine Program (Honoree)
The Arizona Telemedicine Program (ATP) is a multidisciplinary clinical program of The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. It is connected to 171 sites in 71 communities throughout the state. The program was created in 1996 to establish pilot projects demonstrating the efficacy of telemedicine in delivering better health care to Arizona's medically underserved rural areas. Umeå University Hospital (Laureate)
The County of Västerbotten in northern Sweden stretches from the Norwegian border to the coast. This vast, rugged area, approximately the size of Denmark, is home to 255,000 people.

In 2003, hospitals in Umeå, Skellefteå and Lycksele were combined into one giant service area to ensure that all residents received the same level of care. Video plays an instrumental role in meeting that goal.

Navajo Nation (Laureate)
The Navajo Nation extends into the states of Utah, Arizona and New Mexico, covering over 27,000 square miles of unparalleled beauty. Diné Bikéyah, or Navajoland, is larger than 10 of the 50 states in America and is the largest land area assigned primarily to a Native American jurisdiction within the United States. Today, the Navajo Nation is striving to sustain a viable economy for an ever increasing population that now surpasses 250,000.

It is the educational mission of the Navajo Nation to promote and foster lifelong learning for the Navajo People, and to protect the cultural integrity and sovereignty of the Navajo Nation. Video connects the Nation's chapter houses in order to accomplish that goal.
